Next Container of Relief Supplies from DCF, PINAR DEL RIO

Nouveau messagepar Rumrunner » 15 Sep 2008 07:28

I just Received this from John Dubois:

The next can will be for the hurricane victims in PINAR DEL RIO Province, which suffered the double barrel effects of Gustaf as a category 5 hurricane, and then were buffeted and practically drowned by hurricane Ike.

The situation in that province is very grave, with whole villages almost completely destroyed, and the area's hospital seriously damaged.

The situation on the ground in Cuba is so critical that we are considering loading another container next weekend, if we can get the needed support from our wonderful and generous volunteers, as well as me being able to logistically organize the necessary bits and pieces required to make it happen.

Marion and i were greatly inspired by the marvellous show of support and hard work at the container loading yesterday. 39 persons participated in this task, and everyone that had commited to attend, (and more), showed up, from near and far, ( in spite of the most recent price of gasoline).

Incredible commitment!. From that Oshawa man who could barely get around, but brought a full cube van and his wonderful family, the couple from Perth who rented a van to bring their great donations, the folks from Cobourg who had to get up earlier than i go to bed , in order to pick up donations from someone who had made her apartment available as a collection center, and still get here in good time. To June who fed all of us,after the packing, to the lady from Newmarket who worked incessantly to get us all those sheets and towels, to all the others who so unselfisfly gave up their Saturday to help make a difference in some people's lives; people that they have never met and likely never will.

YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!J-L D

We expect to be able to make a decision on next week end's endeavour as early as monday night. We would appreciate feed back from those that might or might not be available next saturday or Sunday, as soon as possible. Joe please post on website, Rick post as you see fit.

Thanks for posting this info Rumrunner! Here's hoping this packing is another huge success!

Finally - here's your chance for you and your guy to participate actively this time! Keep us posted!

From John Dubois:

We're on for Saturday am. we'll try starting at 8.30. I know that we are short several regulars, but WE SHALL OVERCOME!Besides i am optimistic that other good people will respond to the need to help our Cuban friends at this crucial time.We are planning to start early on this one as we hope to put materials arriving thursday and friday directly in the container, at that time..By saturday we also need more towels and bed sheets, Personal higiene and care produsts.( tooth paste and brushes, diapers, soap, face and body cream and more) tools, kitchen utensils and wares, as well as school supplies, good clothes and shoes. So we are in need of help thursday morning at st Joseph's hospital( the Queensway, in Toronto) to help load medical equipment, friday afternoon at RR#1 Princeton to help unload beds , mattresses, etc from a truck, into the container, and of course lots of help is needed saturday morning to load the container for Pinar del Rio. Any one available to help us out, for one or more of these times, please let us know.

Got this from John...

Hello friends/ Volunteers;
Further to our email to you a few days ago,and postings on Cuba Forums, we are very pleased to advise, that we now have enough people that have commited to be here Saturday morning,(september 20th) to load the next container for Cuba.
To those who have confirmed that they would be here, thank you, and we'll see you Saturday.
To any and all others who would like to help, but could not, this time, we hope to see you at another packing in the very near future; as we will load, and send another container to help hurricane victims in a few weeks, when we hopefully, will have gathered enough good , and needed merchandise to fill it.
Thanks again
John

To those who have let us know that you are comming....See you tomorrow... for those who have not please let me know your interest and I will let you know when the next container loading is.
